It’s been two weeks since submissions closed for the second event of our Pauper 5CB Derby and the response was much bigger than expected.

With sixteen contenders, our round robin ruckus consisted of fifteen rounds for a total of over one-hundred and thirty-five games played all things considered. We had some spicy submissions in Round 2. Contenders were heavy on blue and black, especially in the way of Daze, Foil, and Innocent Blood.
As the discussion around turbo hand disruption in the form of Hymn to Tourach & Wrench Mind as well as its effects on the spirit of the five card format continue, so too does that conversation include their equalizers Foil and Daze. At this time there are no changes to the current 5CB Derby ban list to allow for further testing of this meta in subsequent rounds.
With that being said, these cards will remain on the watchlist for potential bans if these pieces prove too dominant within the metagame or otherwise stifle creativity in other colors.

Round 1 of the 5CB Pauper Derby resulted in a tie for 2nd Place so for Derby #2 I’m excited to announce our new Derby Champion, Tyrant
with “Black Ceremony” taking 1st Place with a total of 67 points. Here's our Top 5 and rankings.

The ultimate goal of this event is to gamify card interaction and brewing discussions as well as create a mini league or 'fantasy mtg league' of sorts. It's for knowledge, but mostly a fun way for seasoned players and brewers new to the format to interact amidst various other virtual Pauper community events operating at the moment.

In efforts to keep the Derby as open as possible, for Round 3, there will be no entry caps.

In the first week, we will give contenders a week to brew and submit their engines.

In the second week, matchups will be posted each day and will be opened up for immediate discussion so contenders can become more involved and talk about their matchups amongst themselves in real time. Results will then be posted at the end of the second week.

With the release of Time Spiral Remastered and the debut of Post Modern "Timeshifted" cards with the old card frames, these reimagined versions of pauper staples have quickly become expensive and sought after. We decided to take a page from this book and design our own derby timeshifted versions of our favorite pieces. These will have an old school aesthetic and will also feature regressed errata. These pieces will be officially printed and made available as prizes for our Top 5 ranked contenders.

The submission form for new derbies will now include a section asking for contenders to make a vote on the card they would most like to see downshifted and included as a prize for the current round. In addition to the Derby Champion title on the Discord server, the Champion will also receive a holographic 5CB Derby Decal to rep for street cred.

Black Ceremony is locked in as the deck to beat for the next round. Submissions for Round 3 are now open and will close in exactly one week
